Delaware Rules of the Road Practice Test - Comprehensive Prep & Study Guide

When you miss your exit on the highway, the safest and most prudent action to take is to continue to the next exit and then return. This approach is aligned with safe driving practices and highway regulations, as it prevents creating hazardous situations that could occur by attempting to maneuver abruptly.

Choosing to make a U-turn at the next available opportunity is risky and often illegal on highways, where such maneuvers are not permitted due to safety concerns. Stopping and turning around immediately can create serious dangers not only for the driver but also for other vehicles, as it poses a risk of accidents. Similarly, backing up to reach your exit is extremely unsafe; reversing on a busy highway significantly increases the chances of a collision.

By proceeding to the next exit, you ensure that you are adapting to the flow of traffic, which maintains safety for yourself and others on the road. After exiting, you can safely navigate back to your intended route. This practice reinforces the importance of staying calm and making rational decisions while driving.
